It is a Dr. Demento Christmas staple, and is currently available on Dr. Demento's The Greatest Novelty Records of All Time Vol. 6: Christmas.Here's an interesting fact about the popular Christmas hippopotamus song - in 1953 a ten-year-old girl from Oklahoma, Gayla Peevey sang the song as a way to raise money for the Oklahoma City Zoo's first hippopotamus. It became a nationwide hit after that, although John Rox wrote the song "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" in 1950! The song was not written specifically for the Oklahoma zoo, its just that when they needed the hippo the song came out so the Christmas hippopotamus song just fitted in.

Today was walk to school day for Kylie. Brittany and I met her at the fire station and then we walked to her school along with a couple hundred other people.

Fish Tacos...better then you would think!!!!

So, I've always wanted to try fish tacos. I've always been afraid to order them whenever we go out. I didn't want to pay for them and not like them. Truthfully, how could fish in a taco even compare to regular tacos..I know right. One day I was bored of cooking the usual. I went to Food Networks website and found Guy's receipe for them. We made them one night and they were really good, the following week I made some alterations to his recipe and they were even better. Joe and Jessica loved the way the cod came out; Joe even ate the rest of the cod cold later that night. First you start out by making fresh Pico, you zing up the sour cream by adding tequila---totally optional, cumin and cilantro. Then you cut up your cod and tempura it and fry it in some vegetable oil. The topping for the taco originally called for a type of dry coleslaw mix, but the second time around I changed it to romaine lettuce with cilantro added in, topped it with the Pico...and there you go.

We all celebrated Kenny's 50th birthday, and found out he

wears reading glasses, I guess we all do get old.

Summertime storms are something to see.

The wildlife is active.

often times before the coffee is done brewing.

Micah's famous in blog world

Have you check out Micah on MckMama's blog yet? No? Well you should.

In April this blogger that I follow was in Chicago doing some pictures. So, we signed up to get our pictures taken. She's a pretty popular blogger so we thought we'd ask if she'd do a giveaway of my mom's bibs in order to generate some business for our etsy. She said sure! We've gotten four sales from the blog and are expecting more!

What is wrong with Becky? I called her to find out about her trip to NC. She told it was alright and nothing much happened.

I went shopping with her a few days later and she told me how she got sick and had to go to the hospital and stay in bed for two days. Later she told about getting bit by a sand flea.

Whoopie Pie Recipe

For the pies:
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1/3 cup salad oil
1 teaspoon vanilla3
/4 cup milk

Filling:
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter or margarine
1 cup each: confectioners' sugar, marshmallow cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon salt

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda and salt in a mixer bowl. Add egg, oil and vanilla; slowly beat in milk until combined, about 2 minutes.

2. Drop batter by tablespoons onto parchment-lined baking sheets, leaving room between each for spreading. Bake 12 minutes. Cool completely on wire racks.

3. For filling, combine all ingredients in a bowl; beat until smooth. Spread about 2 tablespoons of the filling per cookie on the flat side of half of the cookies. Top with remaining cookies to make sandwiches.

Okay so we are snowed in...the bottom picture is me trying to open the front door. I can only get it open about 6 inches, before the weight of the snow behind the door stops me. The middle picture is of the snowdrift right outside the front door. The top picture is one of the vehicles that is drifted in. If you look closely you can see the side mirror and part of the rear tire well.
